Going to see Radiohead at Glasgow Green tomorrow night.  I always forget how much I love Radiohead and every now and then remind myself with a solid dose.  They were kind of a turning point for me music-wise, as I didn’t understand why people liked them for ages.  A friend of mine gave me the Bends and told me to listen to it on repeat for a week.  It took about 2 hours of walking around Camden with my minidisc player (oh yes, how retro) blasting for me to see what she was talking about.  The last time I saw them was at Meadowbank in 2006 and I was mildly disappointed at the sound quality but remember happily swaying gently to the music with some bloke’s pint balanced on my head.

Quite a few people are going tomorrow, it should be a great night.

Some people may be wondering what’s happening following the heroic escape from London by this young blogger.  Most people probably couldn’t give a shit.  But considering that I am unemployed I reckon I can spare the time to document it anyway.

I was worried I’d be bored sans job but I’m finding there are so many ways to occupy time when you’re unemployed!

Walking is the favourite activity.  To town. From town. Around town.  A multi-purpose activity (and ALWAYS in time to the ipod!) it not only keeps me fit, but also provides perfect opportunity for people-watching.  On my stomping missions I’ve caught up with many people and seen so much.

Have a guess where I am in this case!

The colonies:

Job hunting is obviously an important way to pass some time!  Without this activity, unemployment would lose its novelty value due to the horrifying prospect of it becoming a permanent state.

Couch and flat surfing provides a variety to life I’ve never appreciated before; each morning waking up brings the confusion of “where in the world am I today then?”  Sometimes the realisation is instant, sometimes it does take a while, however like a trooper I soldier on!

I like the diversity of the company I’m keeping, it keeps everything fresh.  Today’s chat with the latest ‘flatmate’ compared the merits of a man who makes a “mean pineapple upside-down cake” versus one who is “really into bicycles”.  The jury’s out.

I have 4 temporary ‘hosts’ – one couple, an ex-flatmate, one student on vacation (bad – leads to daytime drinking) and a guy who’s had to ‘girl-proof’ the flat by putting a lock on the bathroom, buying in the chocolate in bulk and other such sophistications.  This all finishes on Sunday when I get to finally move into my new place and unpack my now-battered suitcase!  Ah, clean socks. I can’t wait.

One of my homes:

In just over a week I feel I’ve done pretty well for myself – my successes include a new flat, a temp job with a law firm, an unconditional offer for the postgraduate university course which will be the start of my fledgling TV and radio career, and a part-time job with a nightclub doing promotional work and securing free entry for me and friends to gigs and clubnights for the rest of the summer.  I’d say that was a pretty good use of time!

The perfect job?

Meanwhile I’m preparing for a very scary day tomorrow.   I’m not saying why, but please cross your fingers for me.

A Game. Guess the film.

La la la la la la!

Tis a long time since I put fingers to keys.

I thought I’d write a wee bit about the weekend of pure utter brilliance that was:

One week on, I’ve still not recovered from its after-effects.  Pleasant light-headed delirium (especially amusing when at work) turned to tiredness coupled with a spaced-out feeling which continued for so long that I began to worry that perhaps Rockness was permanent?  This subdued into extreme tiredness which has now eventually turned into flu.

My punishment for fun.  Perhaps.  Was it worth it? Too bloody right!

Check out the VIEW!!!

I went with what soon became some of my favourite ever festival-people, and loads more joined as the weekend went on, meaning there was always someone around to play or dance with.  My music highlights included Digitalism, Underworld, Midnight Juggernauts, Fatboy Slim and Editors (who I normally hate!).

Aside from the music, what made Rockness in my top 2 festivals of all time was the general atmosphere.  After the music finished, people were still on top form, everyone was having an amazing time, and the banter was top class!!

La-la’s Stamp of Approval:

A tip for anyone this summer going to a festival: POP UP TENTS!

It’s a house, a dining table, a bar, a chair and a bed all in one!

About a month ago I was in a club and heard a great song. On further investigation (i.e. I asked the DJ) I discovered this was Santogold.  Since then she’s been hyped to f**k so I was reluctant to take my interest any further by jumping on this particular bandwagon.

However, there’s no avoiding it.  Some great tunes and an overall great album!  Here’s L.E.S. Artistes for your viewing (and acoustic) pleasure.

My ‘to do’ list was off to shaky start with the refusal of the resignation, however this is now accomplished with style and I am leaving on good terms. Result.

  • Resign from job – tick (with a flourish)

Yesterday there was a list victory as one of the major items was ticked off.  It came in the form of Jacqui.  It was originally meant to be in the form of Nadia, but she failed me.  Too bad.

  • Find someone for London room – accomplished

My life right now is spent on the internet and I’m going to start signing out of msn as I’m sure my friends all think I’ve got nothing better to do.  I am laboriously flat hunting, job hunting and filling in forms.  Today I have 2 scary forms to fill in – 1 job application and a university application.

  • Job hunt – in progress (slightly distracted by university application)
  • Flat hunt – in progress (hampered by lack of flat viewing ability due to distance from target)

Today is a day for goodbyes.  Ah.  They have been my faithful companions (granted they have no choice about this), watching my every move (again, no choice, although they could turn around and face the other way if they really wanted!).  Today I must pack up the fishes belongings and send them off to their new home. In the sky.  No, not really.  In the toilet.  Again, no.

  • Find new home for fish – tick (sniff)

Next weekend leaves no time for these formalities as I’m off to Rockness for the weekend – woohoo, festival season begins!  I’m visiting the gang – Fatboy, Midnight Juggernauts (having seen them 3 times in a month now they may think I’m a weird stalker), Mystery Jets etc….  The following week has already been dictated to me by various organised house and work leaving parties.  Phewww, it’s a hard life for this blogger.

ps I swear my next blog will be more exciting than about lists.  I’m sorry (hangs head in shame)
